CodeRED
Emergency Notification System
In 2008, the City of Midlothian instituted the “CodeRED Emergency Notification System.” The system is designed to target areas of the Midlothian community, including the ETJ & ESD areas, to notify citizens of an emergency situation that requires immediate action, e.g., bad weather, drinking water contamination, utility outage, evacuation notices (including routes), missing persons, fires, floods, bomb threats, hostage situations, chemical spills, gas leaks, and other emergency incidents where rapid and accurate notification is essential for life safety.
The system is an ultra high-speed telephone communication service that will call the telephone number or numbers listed by you for notification. It then delivers a pre-recorded message describing the situation to the recipient or an answering machine in the affected area, possibly including instructions requiring action on the part of the recipient.
Once the emergency event is remedied, a second call will be placed to the affected area telephone number or numbers signaling the situation is clear and normal activities may be resumed.
This is a free service offered by the City of Midlothian. Residents are urged to register for this free service to be notified of any emergency situation.
For hearing impaired, the Internet update offers a TDD ONLY option for tone delivery of emergency messages. Messages delivered to phone numbers marked TDD will only be delivered in a TDD/TTY format. Residents without Internet access may visit any of the City’s public libraries to use a computer or call the City of Midlothian Office of Emergency Management at 972-775-7142 to give their information over the phone.
